🌍 National Green Corps (NGC) at Aravinda: Fostering Environmental Stewardship

At Aravinda, we deeply value environmental education as an essential part of our curriculum. The National Green Corps (NGC) initiative plays a significant role in teaching our students about environmental protection and sustainability. NGC, a national programme, has been embraced by our school to create a network of change-makers, empowering students, teachers, and the wider community to actively participate in the conservation of natural resources.

To this end, we have formed an NGC Committee comprising Green Teachers and Green Soldiers. Their role is to drive green initiatives, raise awareness, and encourage sustainable practices within the school and surrounding community.

Here are some of the key activities and themes under the NGC programme:

🌱 Environmental Awareness and Community Engagement

  • Awareness Programmes: We conduct vibrant awareness programmes in the surrounding villages using dance ballets, dramas, and puppetry to creatively educate the community about environmental conservation.

  • Recycling Initiatives: Every year, we ensure that all recyclable waste from the school is carefully sorted and sent to recycling centers. This practice encourages students to be mindful of waste and promotes a culture of recycling within the school.

  • Tree Plantation: To combat deforestation and promote greenery, our students actively participate in the distribution of saplings to villages, encouraging communities to plant and care for trees, thereby enriching local ecosystems.

  • Rallies for Environmental Awareness: Our eco-rallies carry powerful messages about environmental conservation. Students and teachers march through the school and nearby areas, raising awareness and promoting actions like cleanliness, waste management, and sustainability.

🌍 Eco-Conscious Practices

  • Soundless Diwali: To reduce noise pollution during festivals, especially Diwali, we motivate our students and their families to celebrate in a soundless manner, thereby minimizing disturbance to nature and wildlife.

  • Eco-Friendly Festivities: As part of our commitment to reducing environmental harm, we encourage the making of clay Ganesh idols during the Ganesh festival, which are distributed to all students. This initiative prevents the harmful effects of synthetic idols on water bodies and promotes sustainable celebrations.

  • No Plastic Campaign: Our school runs an ongoing 'No Plastic' campaign, encouraging students, staff, and the local community to significantly reduce the use of plastic. We aim to minimize plastic waste on campus by advocating for alternatives like cloth bags and reusable containers.

🌿 Eco Exhibitions and Audits

  • Environmental Exhibitions: We organize annual environmental exhibitions where students present their projects on various themes such as air quality, water conservation, and sustainable farming. These exhibitions serve as a platform for students to showcase their learning and advocate for a greener planet.

  • Annual Environmental Audits: Every year, we conduct audits to assess our environmental impact. This includes audits on air quality, water usage, energy consumption, waste management, and soil health within the school campus. These audits help us set goals for improvement and track our progress toward becoming a more eco-conscious institution.

🌎 Building Future Environmental Leaders

Through these activities, Aravinda students develop a deep sense of responsibility towards the environment and become future leaders in the global movement for sustainability. Our NGC programme not only nurtures eco-conscious citizens but also empowers them to take practical steps toward creating a greener, more sustainable world.

We firmly believe that when students are engaged in environmental actions from an early age, they are more likely to carry these practices into adulthood, helping shape a greener future for generations to come.
